Trail and error is always a great way to learn about things, regardless of what it may be. The vast majority of cutting-edge scientific research is actually quite often trial and error. Who ones self truly is, is a highly complex problem with few ways to find the answer than trial and error. It is important that you are prepared to make these errors and prepared to move on. And that you will not try the same thing again and make the same error repeatedly.
