Damis is Elmire's adopted son and Orgon's son. Damis is hot-headed and impetuous, and he is open about how much he detests Tartuffe. Damis also desires to marry Valères's sister. Later on in the play, in an effort to expose Tartuffe, Damis was disowned by his father after witnessing Tartuffe declaring his love to his stepmother. Damis uses his common sense throughout the play to see through Tartuffe. Damis is also very young and bold, he goes as far as threatening Tartuffe throughout the play.
