Overview

In middle childhood, children enter formal schooling.  In this topic, we will explore the physical, cognitive, social, and personality development that occurs during this time in the life span.

  • Explain the current trends regarding being overweight in childhood and the consequences of excess weight
  • Describe Piaget's concrete operational stage and the characteristics of concrete operational thought
  • Identify common disabilities in childhood and the legislation that protects students educationally
  • Describe Erikson's stage  entitled Industry vs. Inferiority
